5 Benefits of Hiring A Non-Medical Home Care Agency

What Really Does Non-Medical Home Care Agencies Do?
Simply put, they help older adults and people with disabilities participate in activities of daily living in the comfort of their own homes. They can do everything from assisting with bathing, toileting, basic household chores, personal hygiene, companionship, etc.

Here are the 5 most important benefits of hiring a non-medical home care agency.

1. Cost
Non-medical home care ($2000 -$5,000 per month) is less expensive when compared to the cost of a nursing home ($6,000 -$8,000 per month).

2.Companionship

Most older adults living in nursing homes or assisted living facilities are very long. The only companionship they will ever get is those provided by nursing aides/nursing assistants. Most people have families, but their visits are seasonal and irregular. Most family members live far away from where their loved ones stay, or may even live in a different state. It is often costly to visit on a regular basis. Or they may have a job and work full time. Leaving no time to spend with their loved one if they stay at home. Non-medical home care workers fill that void of not having a family member present for companionship or a spouse. Older adults love to spend time playing games, going for a walk, or just sitting down and talking to a friend whom they trust.

3. Respite for Caregivers
Ever felt burnout from caregiving? Yes, a family caregiver can sometimes feel like they are burnout. They just need some rest from caregiving. Often when another family member is not present or unavailable, they may often turn to non-medical home care agencies for help (either short-term or long-term). Respite home care services provide family caregivers with a break from caregiving. It’s important that you get help as soon as you begin to feel that you are burnout.

4. Improved Health
With older adults especially with those who suffered from age-related illnesses, it’s important that they have a caregiver at home who can help them with the necessary cares, but also support their health and personal well-being. A family member or loved one may have a need for a special diet or may be required to have 24-hour supervision. The presence of a home care worker provides the person and their family members with peace of mind, and less stress. caregivers often will help the person with planning their meals, eating regularly, and exercising (where necessary and allowed by the person or their health care provider). Do not neglect the health and wellbeing of your loved ones. Get help.

5. Privacy and Safety at Home
Where most people often feel is when they are home. A familiar environment where they know and trust people. In a nursing home or assisted living facility your loved one is often living in a space with people whom they do not know or trust. They are placed in a vulnerable state. The likely for caregiver abuse and neglect becomes apparent. Reports of caregiver abuse and neglect in nursing homes is often another reason why most family members are usually reluctant of placing their loved ones in nursing homes. It’s a scary situation for you and for your loved one. It’s important to your loved one that they can enjoy the privacy and safety of living at home in a familiar environment than moving to a nursing home. Living at home gives you more control over services and supports you want to be provided to your loved one. You have the flexibility of tailoring services and supports, including modifying the environment to meet the unique needs of the person without having to jump many different hoops of bureaucracies that exist in private agencies.

  1. It’s good that you point out that in-home care is great for elderly people who need extra help in their daily lives. My mother is getting too old to take care of herself, so I’m considering hiring an in-home caregiver for her. I’m going to look for a good provider of in-home senior care in my area.
